Frequently Asked Questions:
When should I schedule my Fresh 48?
It is recommended to schedule your Fresh 48 as soon as you are able. Due to the unpredictability of birth, I only accept a limited amount of these sessions each month. This ensures that I am available within 24 hours of your delivery. Sometimes last minute sessions are available but I would recommend scheduling at least 3-4 months in advance.
When and where will it take place?
The session will be at the place of delivery (hospital, birth center, or home). These sessions are scheduled within 48 hours after delivery during daylight hours.
Do I need permission from the hospital?
It is always a good idea to make sure that your hospital allows photography and if they have set visiting hours. Most hospitals do not have an issue with photography.
Can I book a Fresh 48 and a newborn session?
Of course! Your baby is changing so fast and these sessions compliment each other. Your Fresh 48 session will focus on the growing bond between you and your baby while your newborn session will be tailored more towards capturing the details and features of your newborn.
How long does a session last?
I know without a doubt how tired you will be after delivery. I am usually with you around an hour. Remember this is a laid back session and I am able to work around nurses, feedings, visitors and all.
When should I contact you to come?
I ask that you (or your partner) contact me at the onset of labor as well as once baby has arrived so I can make arrangements to be available for you.
What if labor takes a while?
Absolutely no worries! As a professional birth photographer I am patient with the process of labor. As soon as your little one arrives we can make arrangements for your session regardless of the length of your labor.
When do you think is the best time for photographs?
I let you decide when you are ready for me to come. Some moms desire photos immediately after delivery and if available I am more than happy to do that. However, the majority of moms prefer next day photos which gives you a chance to rest and recover from labor and delivery.
What will my session be like?
Fresh 48 sessions are documentary style and intended for capturing you and your partner adjusting to life with your newborn. It is honest and raw and there is definitely no need to get pampered up for this session. There will be minimal posing and a lot of me saying “just pretend I’m not here.” Remember I am there to document the love you are sharing with your baby, the feedings, the details and the emotion. Just be you.
What happens if my baby needs to be in the NICU?
This is handled case-by-case. We will stay in touch, and as soon as the hospital allows I will be there to photograph you and your newborn. If photographing in the NICU is not an option with your hospital, your Fresh 48 session fee will be applied to a future session.
Will my photos be shared on social media or your website?
I love providing Sneak Peeks on social media after sessions. However, I always ask for permission before posting. I do require a signed model release before I post images on my website.
What if I deliver before my due date?
As long as you communicate with me that’s not a problem. Updating me towards the end of your pregnancy definitely helps scheduling go a little bit easier. I will do my best to be there personally or I will send a professional back-up photographer to document your Fresh 48.
What is your cancellation policy?
If canceled 30 days or more before your estimated due date you will receive a full refund minus the $100 non-refundable booking retainer. If cancelled within 30 days of your estimated due date, fees will not be refunded, but rather applied to future sessions.
What happens If you can’t make it?
I work alongside two very experienced professional birth photographers. If I can not make it due to personal reasons, every effort will be made to have one of these photographers photograph your session in my place. In the event that all three of us are unable to make it, you will receive a full refund minus the $100 booking retainer.
When is the session fee due?
I require a $100 non-refundable booking retainer to secure your due date at the time of booking. If a Fresh 48 is purchased on its own (not apart of a collection) then it must be paid in full before delivery. If you unexpectedly deliver early we can work out an arrangement. It’s a good idea to plan to pay balance by 37 or 38 weeks so you don’t have to worry about it once your little one is here.
