N E W B O R N Q & A
Frequently Asked Questions:
When should I book my session?
It’s always best to book your session while you are still pregnant. By booking early you will receive a guaranteed spot on my calendar once your baby is here. If you have already delivered please feel free to reach out as I occasionally have spots open.
What if my baby is born early or late?
When you place your deposit and secure your due date I reserve a spot for you in the weeks surrounding your due date. As long as you contact me as soon as your baby is born delivering early or late would not be an issue. We will select the best day and time once baby is born.
How old should my newborn be for a session?
The sweet age for newborn sessions is 5-14 days. Any older and babies are alert longer and do not fall into that deep, deep sleep. I have photographed plenty of newborns over 2 weeks old, I just find that before 2 weeks makes for a smooth session. Colic may also become evident as well as baby acne after the 2 week mark.
My baby is already here! Can I still schedule a session?
Occasionally I do have last minute availabilities for sessions so it never hurts to contact me to see. I have photographed newborns up to 6 weeks old, however the older they are the more “awake” shots your gallery will contain.
What is your experience with newborns?
I have been a mother since August 2016 and now have five children of my own. I am extremely comfortable with handling newborns and I have attended in-person and online trainings where I have been taught the art and safety of newborn photography. I have been photographing newborns professionally since May 2019 and I believe that continuously pursuing education has allowed me to excel quickly in the art of newborn photography.
What can I do to prepare for my session?
If your feeding schedule allows, plan to feed your baby just prior to our session time. If it is not time to feed baby, no worries, we can always pause the session to feed. Pacifiers are also extremely helpful for allowing me to calm your baby during the session. If you are bringing any special items to incorporate in your session be sure to have those out as well. I will need access to a cleared area with window light to set up the studio equipment.
What can I expect from my session?
Studio Newborn sessions typically take around 2-3 hours depending on the baby. When I arrive I will unload my car and begin the quick setup process. I will always make sure baby has a full tummy and a fresh diaper, and I usually start with them wrapped to help them settle and then work my magic. Feel free to read a book or sit back and watch your gorgeous newborn rock their session.
How do you customize sessions?
Once you book your deposit, and sign your contract, I will direct you to complete your newborn questionnaire where you are able to specify the colors that will be used in your session. I always try new poses and props with each session and I take a variety of poses so that you will have a unique gallery. If you wish to have a custom themed session there is an option to upgrade your session to include newly purchased themed props. .
Do you provide props for our session?
I do have a collection of props that I love to use for sessions. If you upgrade your session and request specific props in advance I can order them and have them ready for your session. I also have a good collection of baby items.
Do I need to have props for my session?
If you have special props that you wish to incorporate in the session you are more than welcome to lay them out. When you fill out your newborn questionnaire please note what you are wanting to add in so that I can plan for it and our session can flow smoothly.
Are family photos included in a newborn session?
The newborn session is primarily for baby, however if you are interested in lifestyle documentary photos of you and your baby in your home, we can incorporate family images during a portion of the session. Newborn sessions are primarily for the new baby.
How long do I have to wait to see my newborn gallery?
With your permission I love to post sneak peeks of your newborn’s session within 24 hours of your session. Your entire gallery is usually ready within 3-4 weeks.
